The standard telling treats the assault on the Golden Temple complex as an eruption — a standoff that spiraled into fire. This spine maps the opposite reading: an event decades deep, produced by structures on every side, and a wound transmitted by the same machinery that inflicted it.

I. The Eruption Frame and Its Costs

The spontaneous-violence telling is stated first: a charismatic militant, a fortified sanctuary, a government with its back to the wall. The section’s point is not that the telling is false in its details but that it is analytically empty — every actor appears on stage without a history, and an event a generation in the building is narrated as a fortnight.

II. The Fiscal and Electoral Structure
