Masands Cycle

Definition

The pattern by which every revolutionary transmission becomes an institutional capture, and every institutional capture eventually confronts the unchangeable text it claims to represent. Guru Nanak establishes direct transmission with no mediators; the Masands arise as necessary infrastructure and become the new gatekeepers — "the institutional form swallowed the revolutionary content"; Guru Gobind Singh abolishes them and installs a text, the Guru Granth Sahib, as Guru: a transmission that cannot be edited, revised by committee, or adapted to political convenience. The cycle recurs wherever liberation hardens into administration.
