The Dharmarth Cadastre
A public decolonial atlas of religious land in Punjab
A cadastre of dharmarth — land granted free of revenue for religious or charitable purpose — that reunifies the records through which those grants were made, reclassified and resumed.
The sacred is real and material. Every extractive operation begins by declaring it symbolic. The cadastre is that thesis in operational form: the dharmarth grants were real, were material, and were extracted through a sequence of administrative actions whose trace survives in records that can be reunified.
The project memorandum, methodology, seed-corpus schema and source-tier hierarchy will be published here.
What this instrument will and will not publish
- Only documented institutions and documented grants are recorded.
- The public record stops at 1947.
- No map or dataset will be released until the Ludhiana/Ferozepur muafi-conversion gradient has been verified.
